| The year brought
about a lot of tournaments for North Jefferson Junior Baseball
Association. The tournament season started with the Third Annual
NJJBA Memorial Day Tournament. Great weather greeted 74 AAA and AA
(Leagues 1-3) teams playing for the first time in their respective
division. Play started on Friday night with the 3-game guarantee
pool play and the champions were crowned Sunday night. Also, for
the first time, there was a home run derby for each age division. The tournaments continued the week later with the Rocky Mountain Invitational which was for Major and AAA divisions. North Jefferson hosted the 11 year old Majors and AAA and the 14 year old AAA division. All of the Major championship games were played on Monday at Lutz Field. The tournament season wrapped up with NJJBA hosting the 11 and 14 year old Major and AAA division USSSA State Tournament. The main challenge of the weekend was figuring out how to get all of the games played as Mother Nature did not cooperate with lots of rain. With lots of hard work by several people, the fields were worked into a playable condition. The celebrity fans included John and Janet Elway who were there to root for their son. A very trying weekend and lots of hours turned into a successful tournament once again. A special thanks goes out to all of the volunteers who helped to make the 2001 tournament season a very successful one. The 2002 season promises to be a very busy one again. North Jeff will host the Fourth Annual Memorial Day Tournament on May 24th through 27th. Teams are encouraged to get their entry in early to avoid being left out as the tournament will be limited to 72 teams this year. It will then be followed by the Rocky Mountain Invitational two weeks after Memorial Day. North Jeff will then finish the year by hosting a portion of the USSSA State Tournament on dates to be determined. Volunteers are once again needed to maintain North Jeff's high standard of hosting tournaments. Any help is greatly appreciated. Best of luck in the upcoming 2002 season. Jay Cleary |
